FY2025 Youth Exchange Program in the Field of Food with the State of Hawaii🌺✨
Since forming a sister-state relationship in 1981, Fukuoka Prefecture and the State of Hawaii have continued to strengthen exchange across various fields.
Since FY2023, we have held the Youth Exchange Program in the Field of Food, aimed at fostering future global talent through food-related exchanges and promoting mutual cultural understanding.
This time, students from Fukuoka and Kapiolani Community College, University of Hawaii (KCC) visited each other’s regions, learning about local food cultures through culinary training, field visits, and cultural lectures.
A joint Japan–U.S. “In-flight Side Dish Recipe Competition” was also held, where mixed teams created original recipes using ingredients from both regions🔥
Program Highlights
🌺Hawaii Program (June, 2025)
-Culinary training and lectures on Hawaiian culture and food at KCC
-Field visits to local producers such as coffee roasters and taro fields
-Mid-term competition where mixed Japan–U.S. teams developed in-flight side dishes

-Culinary workshops and visits to renowned restaurants in Fukuoka
-Field visits to producers of local specialties such as nori (seaweed) and Yame tea
-Final competition featuring in-flight side dishes using Fukuoka ingredients
