International Environmental Cooperation Initiatives

We provide environmental cooperation to Asian cities (Hanoi, Vietnam; Jiangsu Province, China; Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Thailand; and Delhi National Capital Territory (NCT), India) with which Fukuoka has concluded friendship agreements.

We aim to solve local environmental issues and contribute to sustainable development in harmony with the environment.

Training Program for International Delegates
The Fukuoka International Environmental Management Program is a training program that invites environmental department officials from friendship partner cities to Fukuoka to learn about Japan and Fukuoka's environmental technology and policies.
To date, we have hosted 254 government employees from abroad. (As of December 2025)

Environmental Cooperation Projects
We are implementing environmental cooperation projects using Fukuoka's environmental technology and expertise.
Hanoi, Vietnam
Utilizing the the Ministry of the Environment's "City-to-City Collaboration for Zero Carbon Society" program, we are promoting decarbonization and environmental improvement in Hanoi City. In collaboration with companies from Fukuoka, we share our environmental technology expertise and conduct workshops to facilitate these goals.

We are maintaining our cooperative relationship by holding several online meetings each year.
Bangkok, Thailand
In response to the increase in waste due to the rise in tourists and urban development, we are implementing technical guidance that leads to the creation of a recycling system and supporting public awareness initiatives for waste reduction from the fiscal year 2024.
