Foreign students living in the prefecture also performed as the Shichifukujin, or the Seven Gods of Good Fortune, and Otafuku-sama!

The performance by international students will be held on the day of the “Setsubun Festival at Tochoji Temple” as well, so why don't you come to the site?

What is Setsubun?

“Setsubun” is a traditional Japanese festival in early February.

It means the day between two seasons, winter and spring.

According to the lunar calendar used in Japan, it is said that the year begins in February and celebrates the arrival of spring on “Setsubun”.

Mamemaki, which means “bean throwing,” is the most common custom on Setsubun.

People throw roasted beans to drive away evil spirits that bring disaster, misfortune, and disease. And also, we pray for our happy and healthy life.

We usually say "Oni wa Soto, Fuku wa Uchi!" when we throw beans.
In English, it says “Ogres out, fortune in!”
