It's time for the Census!
The Census will be conducted. It's the most important statistical survey in Japan and takes place every five years. It covers all people living in Japan and their households.
Participation in the Census is mandatory under the Statistics Act.
Census takers will visit each household
From late September 2025, census takers will visit each household and distribute census documents.
The survey includes questions on sex, date of birth, employment status, place of work or school, and type of residence.
All people (including non-Japanese people) living in Japan as of October 1, 2025 and their households will be counted in the survey.
You can respond either online, or by completing the printed census questionnaire and mailing it or handing it to the census taker.
Responding online is simple and easy.
Especially with a smartphone, you can just login by scanning the QR code, no need to enter login ID nor password.
