Japanese language instruction for returnee and non-Japanese students

Fukuoka Prefecture conducts annual training sessions to improve the teaching skills of teachers in charge of Japanese language instruction and to enhance the support system of the Board of Education, so that instruction can be tailored to the needs of students.
The number of students requiring Japanese language instruction in Fukuoka is on the rise. In response, the relevant boards of education are making efforts to increase the number of Japanese language teachers.

About Japanese Elementary and Junior High Schools

Foreign children (6-15 years old) who wish to enroll in a Japanese public elementary or junior high school are guaranteed the same educational opportunities as Japanese students.

Procedures for enrollment in public elementary and junior high schools

1_Apply for a notification of moving at your local municipal office.

2_Inform the Board of Education of your local municipal office of your child's desire to enroll in elementary or junior high school.

3_Decide which school to enter and complete the procedures.

4_Go with your child to the school where he/she will be enrolled and discuss future school life with the teacher.
