●Fukuoka Method

What is the Fukuoka Method (semi-aerobic reclamation structure)?

The Fukuoka method is a landfill construction method in which chestnut stones and perforated pipes are installed at the bottom of the landfill site to discharge leachate (waste sewage) out of the landfill system as quickly as possible and to prevent leachate from stagnating in the landfill waste layer.By drawing air into the landfill through natural ventilation, air (oxygen) is introduced into the landfill through the leachate collection pipes, promoting the decomposition of waste by microorganisms.

Climate Change & Decarbonization

Cities and towns are estimated to be responsible for 70% of the earth's major greenhouse gases, and rapid urban and population growth is placing a significant burden on the global environment.

UN-Habitat is also working to combat climate change, conducting weather risk and vulnerability assessments, building flood-resistant housing and other shelters, and improving infrastructure and sanitation.

Awareness-raising and PR

In addition, the Fukuoka Headquarters conducts community-based information activities to increase interest and understanding of human settlements.

啓発・PR

We promote the activities of UN-HABITAT and its initiatives related to the SDGs through lectures delivered to businesses, schools, and community centers.
