Fukuoka International Exchange Foundation

The Fukuoka International Exchange Foundation(FIEF) was established in 1989, which aims to strengthen Fukuoka Prefecture’s functions as a hub for international exchange by utilizing the region’s geographical proximity and unique historical background and by promoting resident-driven international exchange in cooperation with other locally based international exchange organizations. The other objective of FIEF is to contribute to world peace and mutual prosperity by sharing culture and increasing communication between Fukuoka, countries of Asia and the world.

Initiatives

FIEF organizes various events such as lectures and seminars to facilitate interaction between local residents and foreign residents. In addition, the center runs the FUKUOKA IS OPEN CENTER, which provides support to international residence in 24 languages, and also recruits volunteers and provides information related to daily life such as disaster-related information.

In terms of overseas exchanges, we are promoting exchanges with the State of Hawaii (U.S.A.), Jiangsu Province (China), and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (Thailand), which have friendship and other ties with Fukuoka Prefecture.

In addition to providing international understanding education by dispatching foreign residents and others as lecturers to schools and community centers in the prefecture, we also support grassroots exchanges conducted by private international exchange groups and Japanese language classes in the community.

Additionally, at the Fukuoka International Student Support Center, we carry out initiatives such as supporting international students in securing employment at companies within the prefecture.
