Bicycle Insurance is Now Mandatory!
It has become mandatory for all bicycle users to have bicycle insurance (effective as of October 1, 2020).
Incidents where bicycle users are the perpetrators of accidents are on the rise, leading to concerns about traffic rule violations and poor manners among cyclists. To protect both you and the victims, please ensure you have bicycle insurance in case of an accident.
The following individuals are required to have insurance:
- Bicycle users (if a child uses the bicycle, the guardian is responsible)
- Employers who have their employees use bicycles
- Bicycle rental businesses (required to notify the prefecture)
